PANIC ATTACK
If you’re a PS3 owner, then you probably know about the epic PSN service shutdown that happened about a week and a half ago. Yes, it’s still down. And no, nobody knows when it’s gunna come back online.
Turns out a reason for the shutdown was because there was an outside intrusion between the 17th and 19th of this month. Soon as it was detected, Sony shut down the entire PSN on the 20th. It took Sony about six days to finally come forward to the public with what exactly what happened: an unidentified hacker got in and compromised every PSN user’s personal information, including name, address, email, and the big one, credit card number.
As a result, naturally, everybody went into a frenzied panic, criticizing Sony for taking so long to get the news out… despite the fact that Sony just realized what had happened, and as such, released the statement on the 20th. Humorously enough, millions of upset and frustrated users began contemplating either suing Song or jumping ship to the Xbox 360. Really? REALLY?
C’mon y’all. Suing Sony because THEY got hacked is like trying to sue your fork because YOU got fat. It’s pointless and doesn’t make any sense. You should be angry at the HACKER, not the company who got HACKED. And big whoop, so this person got a hold of your credit card number. It’s not like your helpless. Be vigilant! Stop being lazy and stop complaining and whining and keep an eye out on your credit report and account activity, making sure your balances and statements are the same. And if THAT’S too much for you, then do what I did. I didn’t moan and groan about Sony. I took it into my own hands and just to be safe, protected myself by simply closing my debit card and opening a new one. Boom. Easy. The hacker can do whatever he wants to the CC number he got from me, because it doesn’t work anymore, so have at it sir.
And what’s this about switching over the 360? Why? Xbox 360 has a history of problems. You’re telling me that broken hardware out of the box, multiple (3x) RRODs, and 54% failure rates sounds better than one global service shutdown? Really? And don’t give me this nonsense about “well Microsoft doesn’t fuck up and compromise your personal information”. REALLY? Did we forget that Microsoft also happens to make something we call…oh, I don’t know, Windows? You’re telling me that hackers have stopped making spyware, malware, viruses, trojans, and keylogs for Windows? Since when? Windows is secure now?
Let’s calm down and think. Be level-headed. Stop being a retarded overreacting lunatic on the forums. You’re turning this into a shitstorm. Yeah Sony got hacked. Yeah 70 million users got affected. But NOTHING IS SECURE. Hacking happens ALL THE TIME. It’s nothing new. Sony is not impervious. But give them credit for identifying the problem and then shutting down PSN immediately and doing everything in their power to fix the situation. I’d rather have them take their time to give us a clear definition of the incident, rather than give us “We don’t know what happened” and false promises day after day.
This happens. Deal with it. Be smart. Heaven forbid something like this happens to Facebook. /end sarcasm
Helpless hysteria, a false sense of security. Trapped in my phobia, possessed by anxiety.
